Catching a break... in Venao, Panama
Sit back... | ...and relaxWe stayed in "Selina" a brand new hostel right on Playa Venao. | Happinessis a pool in Panamá |

Everybody's gone surfing Except for me and Isma, who choose to write about it and take photos instead. | The luckiest day of our lifeWe hitched a ride to the nearest town, PedasÃ, to get some supplies, but just missed the bus back to the beach. So we ended up having to hitchhike back to our hostel.
As luck had it, the same guy that had taken us to Pedasà picked us up on his way back.
He stopped off at this fishmonger's house en route, and as a reward for waiting with him while he got about a tonne of fish gutted (!) he gave us some fresh tuna. We couldn't believe our luck and of course the Panamanian hospitality! | Siberian Husky"Hope" the gorgeous hostel mascot in Hotel Selina, Playa Venao. |

InesMeeting great people is one of the best things about travelling, and Ines from Germany was an example of this - the only person who could motivate me to get off my lazy beach bum and run! | Helicopter | FrogPanama is home to some amazing wildlife. This is one of the creatures we spotted in the hostel bar. |

Lightning Although the stormy nights meant no star-gazing, they were still beautiful. | The Storm |

Ups and downs... in Santa Fe, Panama
Sitting on top of the worldSanta Fe, is a relatively unknown area in Panama, ideal for "short" hikes and a general detox. We went on the beautiful "Alto de Piedra" walk as well as "Las Brujas". | ButterflyThe wildlife in Panama is a good enough reason to go there. | Tarantula We saw this dead tarantula and two others on our walk. Luckily for me, they were all dead. |

Chasing rainbows... in San Blas, Panama
KunaThis was the first island we stopped at to pay the Kuna Tax to enter the San Blas Islands. | Sail Boat The border crossing to get from Panama to Colombia is renowned for being a fairly rough sail. Another reason for avoiding it by just island hopping our way to Colombia! | Palm Trees |
---|
Centollo The guys found this spider crab (Centollo) that somebody had already eaten! | Out of reachOn the way to this island we saw the Spotted Eagle Ray pictured right. | Spotted Eagle Ray This fish is considered a "near threatened" species, and is therefore protected in the Great Barrier Reef. |

Lunch | BonfireA global, team effort got this fire (and party) started. This is where Isma and I tried "S'mores" for the first time - toasted marshmallows sandwiched between pieces of chocolate and biscuits - and manged to solve the world's problems together with the Belgians and a couple of bottles of Rum!
Good times. | We love you BelgiumThe song that became the songtrack for the trip... |

Coco Bandera IslandThe island where we ate fresh lobster. And that's what made it paradise. | | |
---|
TupileThis island was the first inahbited Kuna village that we went to and spent the night on. Unlike the first village, where we slept on hammocks on the beach, this island had huts and a school. | Hello Kitty | Rose-tinted glasses |

Caledonia This was the second island village that we stayed on. This time we had our own little cabin to sleep in. | BasketballThe kids on Caledonia island spend most of their days playing, whether it's basketball, volleyball or football. | Bandit |
